Calasparra is one step closer to becoming a “Smart city” as the Town Hall installs 11 new WIFI zones to try and erase the “digital gap” giving all residents the same access to the Internet.
The 15,000 euro project to provide the WIFI zones form part of the WifiEU funded by Europe.
Calasparra was one of 10,000 municipal areas in Europe to apply for the funds.
The new WIFI points are:
1. Casa de la Cultura
2. Parque del Prendimiento
3. Parque Prudencio Rosique Robles
4. Plaza Constitución
5. Nuevo Estadio Municipal de Atletismo (athletics ground stadium)
6. Casa Granero Oficina de Turismo
7. Plaza de la Corredera
8. Recinto Ferial
9. Plaza Emilio Pérez Piñero
10. Avenida 1º de mayo
11. Aula de estudio 24 horas

The councillor responsible for this area, Antonio Merino, has explained that the initiative aims to reach the majority of the corners of the municipal area in order to promote digital integration and is one more step towards
the future project: Calasparra Smart City.
