The celebrations to mark the anniversary of the Donation of Calasparra to the Order of San Juan of Jerusulem will count on a medieval market with more than 40 street shows, a puppet theatre, live music and much more.
The ceremony of the Presentation of the Keys of Calasparra will also go ahead on June 9 at 12 midday in the Municipal Auditorium. The recipients this year, for a unanimous vote, will be the Cultural Association of the Rondalla of Calasparra.
The Rondalla OAPs Music Group has kept the musical traditions of Calasparra alive for more than 40 years.
The traditional parade will not take place due to Covid-19 restrictions and all other events, such as the market and the keys ceremony, will be limited by special safety measures.
The Head of the local Department of Culture, Antonio Merino, has announced that the Medieval Market will consist of artisan stalls, street entertainers such as jugglers and jesters, stilt walkers and table top games as well as ecological attractions and more than 40 shows.
“The medieval market will count on a specially designed protocol given the sanitary circumstances that we live in so there will not be stalls selling food or drinks”, he said.
On June 9 the Calasparra Rutas de Arroz series continues with the “Ruta a Villa Vieja Atardeceres en la Historia”, a theatrical story around the life of the civil population during the times of the Yacimiento Hispano-Musulman in the XII and XIII centuries, realized by Jose Angel Moya and directed by Paco Cassinello. Entrance is three euros.
Editors Note.
The archaeological dig at Villa Vieja dates back to the XII and XIII centuries. The route will be in the form of a theatrical presentation on site.
