Nine years after the continuous swollen caudal of the River Segura destroyed terraces and riverbanks at the Sanctuary the reformation work has been completed and the embankment officially opened.
The work, financed by the EU Feder Funds, has consisted of demolishing and removing the ruins of the old wall and building a breakwater with large stone blocks. An access to the river has been established and the embankment has been filled and paved. The furniture has been installed and native trees and bushes replanted.
Representatives of the different departments at Calasparra Town Hall and the Municipal Corporation joined the Head of the regional Department of Agriculture and Water, the Head of the Department of Environment and representatives of the Sanctuary Foundation for the inauguration.
