VETS PROPOSE WEBPAGE TO STOP PET POISONING

The President of the regional College of Vets is proposing to set up a webpage which connects vets and the security forces to share information about the poisoning of pets.
The webpage would provide “more fluid” communication in order to identify statistically areas where more poisonings take place, particularly deliberate cases.
If a particular area of a municipal area or a village is detected, thanks to the share information, surveillance would be increased in order to identify the culprit/s.
Currently, it is difficult to know whether a pets was poisoned during a walk, when they eat something they find, and then show symptoms at home, or they have been poisoned by accident at home, claim the College of Vets.
Fortunately, in the majority of cases of poisoning the animal survives but two in every 10 die.
The Guardia Civil have underlined the importance of public support to identify poisonings.
Seprona support the idea of the webpage and commented that the poisonings of dogs remains an issue and is a crime.
Not only dogs are poisoned as traps baited with poison are left in the countryside to kill animals which eat game. Poisonings are also related to an attempt to wipe out domestics pets, bees or as result of quarrels between landowners, says Seprona.
