The two part over 60,000 euro project to restore the river beach on the River Segura and to upgrade and lengthen the current white water canoeing course is about to begin.
The Mayoress of Calasparra, Teresa García, and the Head of the local Department of Environment, Juan Bernal, with representives of the Segura Water Board (Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura) and the company, Telhidra, held a site meeting this week near the Municipal Canoe Club.
The work will cost 31,052.10 euros and is expected to be completed in a month.
The work on the Remolino del Cañar (Cañar Whirlpool) aims to restore and improve and river beach, which is frequently used by local residents during the summer, and rebuild the river banks.
As well as restoring this area with more flexible solutions than those currently used a parking area and a picnic area will be established and the river banks will be replanted.
This work will be carried out by Getnisa Ingenieria Civil at a cost of 38,140.14 euros and is expected to take a month to complete.
