Many of our readers have been issued with TIEs which wrongly state that you are an EU family member. Here is how to rectify your card.
The Spanish authorities has confirmed that these cards are and will remain valid, but they have now also provided instructions on the process for exchanging them.
Take your passport and the incorrect TIE to any National Police station (Policia Nacional) in your area. They will process the new card free of charge.
No appointment is needed but it is always a good idea to check with the police station in advance.
