The regional Department of Education has announced measures for the return to school in September which include smaller class sizes and the recruitment of 800 new teaching staff.
The school week will also be divided into virtual classes and classes on the school premises.
The region emphases the need to prioritize classes held on the school premises but these will be suspended and replaced by virtual classes in the event of an outbreak of Covid-19,
A manual of protocols to be employed in the event of contagions within a school has been prepared by the Department.
Other measures include an investment of 2.5 million euros to reinforce the cleaning and disinfecting of education centres; 10 million to improve premises and hygiene equipment; and 18 million for the digitization of the centres.
The Digitization Plan also includes buying 40,000 electronic devices, 17,000 mobile devices and 23,000 computers to ensure pupils can use the equipment at home.
