The most important day on the Spanish Christmas calendar brought the Three Magic Kings to Calasparra filling the streets with magic and colour and the hearts of local children with expectation.
The night of the Three Magic Kings, January 5, is traditionally when they bring the children their Christmas presents. Although these days, as many people in Spain also celebrate December 25 as Christmas Day with presents under the tree, the festive season seems to last forever.
The Plaza de la Corredera was decked out in red awaiting the arrival of their majesties, who brought with them life size cartoon characters, a fancy dress parade, music, dance and riotous colour.
As is traditional, there was a gift for every child received from the hands of the Three Magic Kings and, of course, a scramble amongst spectators for an avalanche of sweets, chocolates and small gifts thrown from the royal carriage.
There was a special reception from the Mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez, and his councilors at the Toiwn Hall before the parade, in which many local groups took part including the Espiga de Oro; Zumba Group; Yeguada Roman Merino (horses); the Junior Choir; Calascole; Civil Protection; Red Cross; Press; Municipal Services and the local police.
This is the last event on the seasonal calendar here in Calasparra which, after yesterday´s fiesta, should quickly get back to its quiet, sleepy norm.
