POSSIBLE REGIONAL SERVICE FROM CALASPARRA STATION

The Ministry of Promotion has confirmed that the rail track between Cieza and Calasparra will not be dismantled and that new connections with Cieza, Murcia, and possibly other areas in the region such as Cartagena, are being considered.
It was just a couple of months ago that the Government Delegate, now PSOE candidate for the regional presidency, Diego Conesa, gave a press conference in Calasparra declaring that the station would not close.
This month the last train to Madrid left Calasparra station. No trains have stopped at the station since then due to the opening of the new Camarillas rail link, which cuts out Calasparra and cuts 15 minutes off the Murcia-Madrid service.
Now Conesa has announced the possibility of regional services from Calasparra, primarily to Murcia, via Cieza, and possibly to other parts of the region.
He estimates that the million and a half residents, currently affected by the closure of Calasparra station, represent a “critical mass” necessary to propose new connections within the region from Calasparra.
The PSOE candidate has confirmed the Ministry of Promotion is considering expanding regional services, which at the moment are limited to Lorca, Aguilas and Alicante, and will not dismantle the rail track between Cieza and Calasparra
