The company, Personalia, part of the FUNDOSA group which is instrumental in the ONCE foundation, will take over the management of the OAPs Residence in Calasparra from August 1.
The move brings an end to months of dispute between the Town Hall, the workers and the previous management, Alicante de Servicios Sociosanitarios and hopefully resolves the position of the workers who have been working without pay for the past three months.
Personalia, who take over the management on a provisional basis, specialize in providing long term care for elderly and dependent people.
The 40 workers at the residence had denounced the “total abandon” by the former management. “It is a desperate situation,” said Choni Sánchez, representative on the Workers Committee.
Last January the workers reported the non payment of their wages to the Inspector of Work and it is now subject to judicial proceedings. Yesterday a legal action brought by workers against the same company in Jumilla was resolved and, according to Jesus Navarro, Mayor of Calasparra, the funds of the company were “unblocked” thus releasing the money to pay the outstanding wages to the workers in Calasparra.
The Mayor has said he expects the new company to “improve the service as well as the situation of the workers.”
The management of the centre is expected to be put out to tender in the next few months.
