Central Government, now in the hands of the PSOE, Socialist Party, has given a motion to suppress the so called “solar tax” in the Murcia región a second chance and has agreed not to oppose it.
Two years ago the government of Rajoy, PP Party, vetoed the suppression of the solar tax in the region. A subsequent appeal to the Constitutional Tribunal by the regional government failed because the “regional legislation could not overrule national legislation.”
Now central government has indicated it would not oppose the move to suppress the tax on auto consumption of solar energy, which nets the 358 million euros in taxes, if the region proposes it again.
The suppression of the tax, levied on auto consumers for connecting to the national grid, forms part of the PSOE policy declared when Sanchez took over the Presidency, as part of the green, clean energy programme.
Regional government must now re-initiate the process for legislation to repeal the tax and, according to official sources, no longer expects any legal problems or opposition from central government.
