The labels on different fuels available in petrol stations all over Europe will change completely in a bid to give consumers more information at the point of sale.
From October 12 a European directive (2014/94/UE) comes into force and all labels on the average petrol pump will change.
The change facilitates drivers with electric cars and alternative energies to identify the correct source of fuel at the pumps and aims to improve access to recharging, hydrogen, natural gas and liquid gas at the petrol stations.
The new labels (shown in the diagram accompanying this article) have an exclusive design for each type of fuel.
The new labels will not only appear at the petrol stations but will also feature on the petrol caps and technical information of new vehicles.
However, the new labelling system at petrol stations will be accompanied by the old system for transition period.
According to the new norm fuels will be identified with the following labels:
Petrol: E5, E10 y E85
Diesel: B7, B10 y XTL
Gas Combustibles: H2 (hidrógeno), LPG (Liquid petrol gas), CNG (Gas Natural and LNG (Gas Liquid Natural).
Each type of fuel is represented by a different shape of label: circles for petrol; squares for diesel; and diamond for combustible gases.
