The President of the airport authority, AENA, Jaime García-Legaz has announced that the new airport at Corvera will open at the end of this year with flights starting in December or January.
According to Jaime García-Legaz the start of operations at the airport now depends on the airlines as all the installations are ready.
San Javier airport will close to commercial flights as Corvera opens and airlines are expected to transfer their business to the new airport.
Corvera airport will generate 500 new jobs and can accommodate four million passengers annually.
