The head of the local Social Services Department and second in command to the Mayor, has been forced to resign after making “unfortunate remarks” about his colleagues at a private function.
Unfortunatel, for Antonio José Moreno, who confesses to “one glass too many,” his remarks were videoed and passed “like wildfire” through Calasparra.
Moreno has apologised to the residents of Calasparra and anyone who may have felt offended by his remarks. He resigned because, he says, “nothing and no-one must stain the reputation of the Town Hall.”
However, he adds that he goes with “my head held high” in the knowledge of “ a job well done.”
The Mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez, lamented the incident and accepted his resignation, which was “inevitable due to the seriousness of the expressions used.”
He emphasized that he valued the “courage and the honour” of the ex councillor. “Other politicians should take note and follow his example instead of clinging onto their seats despite having stronger reasons than his for resigning,” he added.
