The torrential rain yesterday and overnight registered some 66 litre of rain per square metre in the wettest 24 hours of the year so far.
The local police reported no serious incidents caused by the inclement weather and local fruit farmers are predicting a bumper year as abundant rainfall at the time the trees are flowering provides “perfect conditions for the fruit.”
The hot weather last week brought most of the fruit trees out into flower and the return of winter was viewed by some as a threat to the harvest. However, temperatures did not fall below freezing locally and hailstorms were restricted to Molino del Segura where they caused some damage.
