The neighbourhood Associations of Valentín, Canara and el Campillo de los Jiménez have announced new protests against the installation of a rubbish dump on the skirts of the Sierra del Puerto in Cehegin.
Declaring themselves “disappointed and worried,” Juan Felipe Pérez Andreu of Valentin told Radio Calasparra “time passes and work on the dump continues.”
He added that there was widespread ignorance as to the extent of the environmental damage the plant would cause.
On February 22 there will be a protest outside the Department of Water, Agriculture and the Environment.
The groups will also collect signatures on a petition to transfer the matter to the Regional Assembly.
