The Mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez, a unión representative and the lawyer, Antonio Mengual, visited the Conservas Fernández canning plant (formerly know as the Diosa) last week to assess the potential for re-opening it.
The Mayor said: “ We are working together with the regional Institute of Promotion and the workers of the plant to achieve the re-opening of the factory.”
The workers report that conditions at the plant are “considerably better” than they expected and facilitated the factory re-opening within a few weeks.
“Now all we need is a definitive solution to makie re-opening the plant a reality,” said a spokesperson.
The Mayor and the Director of INFO, Javier Celdrán, have a meeting planned for the beginning of the New Year to pursue plans for re-opening the plant.
