A judge in Murcia has declared Conservas Fruitas S.A, Cofrusa, owners of the Diosa canning plant in Calasparra, are in a “current state of insolvency.”
The decision by the Mercantil 2 of Murcia (court) signifies that the companies affairs will pass into the hands of the administrators, who in this case will be a solicitor, an economist and one of the company’s creditors.
The company applied for voluntary insolvency after the regional government refused to guarantee a further loan of some 22 million euros.
Workers at the factories owned by Cofrusa, including the Diosa, were opposed to the company receiving another large loan as ex-workers, many from Calasparra, had still not received their redundancy payments.
The single hope of the ex-Diosa workers is that the administrators will agree to sell the factory in Calasparra and the factory gates will open for business again.
