Everyday in the region of Murcia 140 more people are signing on as unemployed according to figures released by the Department of Traffic for January.
In January 4,192 people lost their jobs, an increase of 3.25% compared to the previous month bringing total unemployment in the region to 133.127.
Even with this 5.39% increase compared to last year the unemployment levels in the region are still one percentage point below the national average.
Traditionally unemployment figures are boosted during January as the catering industry lays off temporary staff employed over the festive period. However, this increase reflects a general trend in Spain where the national unemployment figure tops the four million mark (4,231,003).
