The local Government team at Calasparra Town Hall has requested the restitucion of the Mobile Cancer Screening Unit service for the prevention of breast cancer in Calasparra, suspended last year due to lack of funding of the AECC, who offered the service, by the Department of Health.
The Mayoress of Calasparra, Teresa Garcia, joined by the Head of the local Health Department, María Eulalia García, attended a Health Committee Meeting called by the Head of the regional Department of Health, after receiving numerous complaints from local residents requesting the restitucion of the service.

A spokesperson for Calasparra Town Hall says: » We understand that this situation has caused anxiety amongst our residents, especially regarding access to services for the detection of breast cancer. From the first instance the local Government team has been actively working to allay these concerns.»

Calasparra Town Hall maintains their request to restore the Cancer Screening Mobile Unit service in Calasparra and considers moving the screening to Caravaca «inadequate» although they maintain that service offered in Caravaca facilitates access to these tests and guarantees that residents receive the attention they merit.
Caravaca Hospital has informed Calasparra Town Hall that they will contact and give an appointment to everyone in Calasparra who qualifies for breast cancer screening. However, if those with appointments with the Hospital Quirón prefer, they can attend the appointment made for them with the said hospital.
