There is a real treat in store for sports enthusiasts on Friday as international cycling stars, including the winner of the Tour de France, Alberto Contador, are competing in the Tour de Murcia and it passes just by Calasparra.
Friday is the first day of this 31st edition of the Tour around the region of Murcia and the multicoloured serpent of cyclists will pass nearby the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Hope at approximately 1.45pm. The best viewing points will be from the bridges above the lower road to the Sanctuary near the Olivarejo or at the Sanctuary crossroads.
Alberto Contador has arrived in Murcia from Mallorca where he has been training hard for the Tour around the Algarve. This is his first competitive race since the Tour de France.
Denis Menchov and Carlos Sastre have also confirmed they will be taking part.
