THIRD VOTE TONIGHT ON THE DROP IRRIGATION SYSTEMS FOR CALASPARRA

There will be a meeting tonight, Monday November 21, at 7.30pm in the Municipal Auditorium for all smallholders and farmers who currently benefit from the existing “tandem” irrigation (irrigation water dispatched through network of canals) to vote for the installation of drop irrigation.
Over four years ago two similar meetings voted in favour of the new system, which will save water and reduce the cost of irrigation water to the consumer. The only extra cost to the consumer will be to cover the installations to distribute the water on their own land.
Because the work to install systems to transport the irrigation water to each “finca” has been delayed for four years the original contractor has pulled out and the work has been put out to tender again. The vote tonight is to authorize the new company to carry out the work.
NEXOnr has spoken to the Mayor of Calasparra and the local Irrigation Society who have confirmed that irrigation water will be pumped to the perimeter of the individual properties at no extra cost and that the actual water will cost less per year. However, landowners and small holders will need to install a filter ( a membrane filter costs a few euros) and distribution systems on their properties. Prices for these systems can be checked out at local suppliers or on the Internet
