The defunct railway line in Calasparra will become a Via Verde (a Green Way for walkers and cyclists) taking in some of the most emblematic and stunning landscapes in our area.
Calasparra Town Hall and ADIF have signed the contract giving the green light for the project, which aims to connect Cieza, Calasparra and Hellin.
Yesterday morning the Mayoress of Calasparra, Teresa Garcia, and members of her government team met with the Head of Patrimony and Urbanism East of ADIF, Francisco Selva García, to sign the contract which “reflects the commitment of both parties to maintain and conserve the patrimony through sustainable mobility, combining leisure activities with a respect for the environment and looking to conserve natural spaces of special ecological, scientific, cultural, recreational and picturesque values.”
The project includes the preservation of the Railway Station in Calasparra, adapting it and its surroundings for various different projects which will be probably be financed by Europe.
Editors Note:
Anyone who has used the existing Via Verdes in the Murcia region will know, as they follow the route of the trains, they pass through some of the most beautiful landscapes Murcia can offer and, usually, have the additional advantage of being pretty flat, which is good news for cyclists in our mountainous area.
