THE NIGHT THE MOON TURNED RED

Stargazers had to wait until 10.14pm last night to see the full effects of the total lunar eclipse, the early stages being invisible here in Calasparra where the moon did not rise until 9.30pm.
The Eclipse, reputed to be the longest and most intense we will be able to see from Spain until 2014, was the result of the earth slipping between the sun and the moon and the sun ray´s being reflected in the earth’s atmosphere turning the moon red.
Although the eclipse lasted an hour and 41 minutes the full effects were not visible until the máximum point at 10.14pm, three quarters of an hour after the moon rose.
