The new mobile recycling facility arrived in Calasparra yesterday morning (Friday) where the Mayor was ready to show the local press, including NEXOnr around.
The unit will spend its first month in Calasparra touring the local schools as part of the municipal awareness campaign on responsible citizenship.
“If we educate the children, apart from creating responsible citizens, they will educate their parents,” he explained.
Within two months the mobile unit, which is small enough to pass through narrow streets or alleys, will be located in a different part of the municipal area for a day.
“This unit will move around the municipal area but will always be in the same place on the same day,” said the Mayor “so people will know when it is coming and can dispose of their rubbish responsibly.”
The Eco-Park can accommodate all the smaller recyclable rubbish from small electrical appliances to small pieces of furniture, from use cooking oil to fluorescent lights or batteries. This mobile recycling facility will be available on a rota basis to all residents and will collect all small waste which does not fit into the traditional categories.
“We want to stop the irresponsible dumping of waste and rubbish on the local landscape,” continued the Mayor. “Much of the rubbish dumped in our surroundings will continue to contaminate for 3 or 400 years;” said the Mayor. “We will advertise when the unit will go to a certain area and will carry out an awareness campaign so residents make the best use of this facility.”
The Mobile Eco-Park is a bright yellow lorry with a slide down ramp which provides access to a walk-in recycling facility where there are different containers for different types of rubbish are clearly marked. There is a large space behind the driver’s cab for electrical items and small items of furniture. The timetable of where and when the facility will be available in different areas of Calasparra will be published in NEXOnr when it is available.
The Town Hall also runs a bulk rubbish collection service which was free of charge.
The new “mobile ecoparque” has been allocated to Calasparra by the regional government as part of a 409,000 euros project across six municipal areas to deter fly tippers and litterbugs. It is 80% financed by the European Cohesion Fund and 20% by the regional Government.
The regional Government has also called on residents to use the new facility and “avoid the uncontrolled tipping of rubbish locally, reduce the volume of rubbish on public tips and save primary materials and energy which can be reused or recycled”.
