SIX HEALTH UNIONS CALL STRIKE THIS WEEK

Six health unions have called on doctors to strike this week in support of changes to work conditions and retirement rights.
The strike begins today, Monday February 16, and lasts all week.
The unions have called for one weekś strike every month until June if their demands are not met.
Among their demands is a singular professional classification creating a new category; a maximum working week of 35 hours; and any extra hours be voluntary and paid.
The unions are also claiming a total or partial voluntary retirement system and the prohibition of enforced changes of places of employment.

MINIMUM SERVICES WILL BE MAINTAINED
Minimum services will be guaranteed in local medical services including the local medical centre according to the regional news although no local information has been made available.
Hospitals will treat strike days as «fiestas» except in the units of Dialysis, Emergencies, ITU, Oncology Clinic, and clinics related to pregnancy.
A 60 percent of habitual services will be available to in patients and the essential tests will be guaranteed.
Diagnostic tests will be treated if they are urgent,for in patients, in oncology or suspected cases of cancer, dialysis and pregnant women.
Operations will be guaranteed if they are urgen and for in pateints, oncology or pregnancy.

How strong support will be for the strike is uncertain. In past industrial action it has not affected all regions and services, however, the regional Health Authority has published the information given above and Nexonr feels obliged to pass it on.
