Is it the taste or the price of the organic vegetables that have won over shoppers in Calasparra´s Friday market or is it both?
The “ecologico” stall, outside the gates of Cine Rosales, with day fresh vegetables grown by a small local agricultural project, normally completely sells out by midday.
The stall holder, Salvador, says he is “completely overwhelmed” by the response of both the Spanish and English speaking residents.
“People stop me in the street to compliment me on the taste of the vegetables,” he says.
This week the broccoli is ready for picking, there will be new potatoes, spring garlic, peppery radishes, cucumbers, tomatoes, courgettes, Swiss Chard, beetroot, spinach, turnips, carrots red and green peppers, aubergines and fresh herbs.
The stars of the stall this week are Jerusalem artichokes.
Please remember the stall does not open until 10am as we pick the vegetables on the morning of the market to bring you the freshest and tastiest produce.
