The second phase of the nearly 250,000 euro project to provide cycle lanes from the Sanctuary, through the old town, past the sports ground and pavilion and down behind the industrial estate was completed this week.
The new 84,000 euro cycle lane, painted a distinctive red and stretching from the new sports ground by the Peace Park down through the Textiles area (behind the Día supermarket),will join the projected third phase connecting the old town and completing the “round route.”
Last year a cycle lane from the Saints Church through Villa Vieja and travelling alongside the River Segura to the Sanctuary was constructed at a cost of 160,000 euros.
When the project is completed the cycle lane will stretch from the Sanctuary through the old town past the sports ground and down through the Textiles area to the main road out of Calasparra in the direction of Caravaca.
