The apricot season is short and sweet. As soon as this delicate fruit is ripe it must be picked and eaten or it falls off the tree and rots within 24 hours.
Every year local growers face common perils which threaten the harvest: winds that blow the fruit off the trees prematurely and hail or heavy rain which marks the apricots and makes them unsellable.
Last year it was hail that almost wiped out the whole harvest but this year we are delighted to announce that we have arrived at the harvest period wind and hail free. The fruit is plump and sweet and the last of the apricots will be ready for the market this week.
We also have some nisperas(japonica) which have ripened perfectly in the hot Calasparra sun.
On the salad front we offer lettuces, radishes and the first of the season´s tomatoes. Also some fresh, crisp radishes and beetroot. There is also some celery and we have cauliflowers, broccoli, turnips, carrots and salad onions.
The ecological stall is exclusive to Calasparra´s market and our vegetables and fruit are picked fresh on Friday morning. None of our produce has travelled from one market to another or spent any time at all in fridges or cool storage.
And you don´t have to sacrifice taste and quality for price because as we grow our own and bring it directly to the customer without intermediaries you can buy the best quality ecological produce for the same price as mass produced vegetables and fruit from the other stalls.
The ecological stall is on the corner outside the Sangui supermarket and opens at around 9.30am.
