The annual rabies vaccination for domestic animals has been made obligatory in the Murcia region after an outbreak of rabies was discovered on the Spanish peninsula.
The new regulation affects dogs, cats and ferrets.
The source of the outbreak is thought to be a dog brought in from Morocco where rabies is an epidemic.
Although the Murcia region is outside the restricted areas near the outbreak local vets are calling on pet owners to vaccinate their pets in order to prevent and erradicate the illness here in Spain..
