A new mobile recycling unit for “non traditional” rubbish has been allocated to Calasparra as part of a 409,000 euros project deter fly tippers and litterbugs.
The regional government has called on residents to use the new facility and “ avoid the uncontrolled tipping of rubbish locally, reduce the volume of rubbish on public tips and save primary materials and energy which can be reused or recycled”.
The new mobile unit is a light container lorry, adapted for rubbish items that fall outside the current categories available, which will transport the residues to the local “ecoparque” (Public Recycling Facility near the Chapel of Rest). These parks are designed to store old electrical domestic appliances, wood, metal, paint residues, batteries, branches (from pruning), fluorescent lights and tubing etc.
Calasparra is one of only six towns in the region to be allocated this special recycling facility. The first unit has already been delivered to Molino de Segura where the Mayor of Calasparra was invited to a special ceremony attended by Francisco Espejo, the Director General of Planning, Evaluation and Environmental Control.
The new “mobile ecoparques” were 80% financed by the European Cohesion Fund and 20% by the regional Government.
The Director General explained that the residues would be transported to selection plants for separation, recuperation and recycling.
Last year the region’s recycling parks collected 5,000 tons of rubbish for recycling.
