The Town Hall has officially presented its five year plan to encourage Calasparrians to live healthier lives and develop healthy habits.
The Municipal Health Education Plan 2010 – 2015 has eight objectives: to promote health and healthy habits; to unite workers in a team; to promote hygiene and personal care; to promote healthy eating; to encourage responsible consumers; to improve mental health and work with addictions; to promote the environment, and provide services on sexuality and affection.
The head of the local Health Department, Isabel Torrente said: “Health is the best cultural inheritance that we can leave for future generations of Calasparra”.
Under the plan health education in the nursery and local primary schools includes safety in the home, road safety training, and promotes healthy eating and exercise during leisure time.
“We need everyone to get involved or it won´t work,” said Isabel Torrente, “We need to lead by example. If our children watch us crossing the road at a safe place they will copy us. It is a question of responsibility.”
The team of workers who have drawn up the plan, which include staff from the health centre, the schools and the Town Hall, will hold weekly meetings to monitor progress towards a healthier Calasparra.
