MAYOR CALLS IN LOCAL POLICE ON DOG POISONING CASES

The Mayor of Calasparra, José Velez, has called in local police to investigate a series of incidents of dog poisonings near the Valle Del Sol urbanisation.
He also called in chiefs from Aqualia to investigate and repair leaks from the water treatment plant serving both the Valle del Sol and the Cañada Verde urbanisations.
The Mayor has instructed the local police to keep watch on the area, identified by residents, in order to catch whoever is laying the poison, which has killed two dogs and poisoned seven others. The most recent incident was just two weeks ago when a dog died after eating after being walked by a member of Dog´s Rescue in the area.
The local police will also make house to house enquiries in the area to try and identify anyone who may be implicated in the incidents.
The area of woodland, at the bottom of the urbanisation at the end of the «pink paths,» is a favourite area for residents walking their dogs.
During a meeting with a representative from the urbanisation the Mayor was also informed of smelly, leaking water from the water treatment plant, which serves the two urbanizations. He immediately contacted chiefs at Aqualia and instructed them to investigate and repair the leaks as soon as possible.
Any residents who own dogs affected by these poisonings incidents are encouraged to report the matter officially to the local police and/or the animal protection arm of the Guardia Civil, Seprona.
Our information is that only one «denuncia,» has been lodged, which may explain the lack of action on behalf of the authorities.
However, readers are also reminded that during the fiesta period, up to January 5, staffing levels and opening hours at Seprona are likely to be several restricted.
Nexonr will keep readers informed of progress on these two issues.
