MASKS OBLIGATORY FROM DECEMBER 9

The Regional Health Authority has announced that wearing masks will be obligatory from December 9 in all hospitals, private or public, medical centres and emergency departments.
As reported in Nexonr recently the cases of flu have increased in the last few weeks reaching epidemic proportions nationally.
This measure will stay in force until the end of the year although the situation will be revised every two weeks. The aim is to reduce the risk of contagion and protect patients and medical staff.
Cases of flu in the region have increased by 110% in the last week; respirattory infections have increased by 19%; Cov id-19 by 20%; and bronchitis by 6.9%.
Wearing masks is also recommended in day centres, OAPs residences, private clinics and any other establishment where there is contact with medical or sanitary staff.
Flu vaccinations are now available to the whole population, they are free and recommended by the Health Authority.
There is a new variant K of the virus that presents multiple mutations and is more aggressive. However, this year’s flu vaccinations include protection against this variant.
