The waiting list for operations in the region of Murcia is growing and currently 27,882 patients have exceeded the maximum waiting times set by the Ministry of Health.
The maximum waiting time set for an operation is 150 days and 50 days for the first appointment with a consultant.
Patients accessing practically all health services in the region are experiencing longer delays and those awaiting surgery are waiting approximately 376% longer than in the same period last year.
Magina Blázquez, Director of the Health Service admitted the increase in waiting times but underlined that these cases were “in all cases non urgent operations.”
She admitted that the reduction of working hours for health staff had had an impact on waiting times.
