CARM has issued an order today, Thursday October 2, that permits gardens and small holdings to burn prunings and agricultural waste from October 1, 2025, in properties that are more than 400 metres from woods or wooded areas.
This brings and end to to the blanket prohibition of burning natural waste in force from June 1 to September 30.
This order permits the controlled burning in small areas, such as gardens, and small holdings where there is no alternative and there is a risk of waste contaminating existing plants, trees or crops.
Micro holdings are 0.5 hectares or less areas of fruit trees, olives, vegtables and greenhouses.
Small holdings (Pequeño explotaciiones) are from 10 hectares that are up to 30 hectares from plantations «en secano» (without irrigation).
All other properties within the 400 metre zone of wooded areas and woods require a licence.
