IN SPAIN THE RAIN FALLS MAINLY DURING EASTER WEEK

Showers during Easter Week in Calasparra are almost as traditional as the Easter parades and according to weather forecasters April showers will put a dampener on the celebrations again this year.
The bands and the poll bearers have been practising all year for the grand processions on Good Friday, Saturday and Sunday when the weather is predicted to take a turn for the worst. (See complete Easter Programme on this webpage).
However, yesterday, Sunday, the town was decorated with olive branches, small children were seen clutching elaborate palm crosses and the weather held for the traditional Palm Sunday Blessing and Parade. The sun continued to shine for the pilgrimage of Ecce Homo from his chapel to the town for his traditional meeting with La Dolorosa later that evening.
Early on Friday morning it was chilly but bright for the solemn but splendid Stations of the Cross Parade which set off from the Saints Church.
Temperatures are expected to hover around 20 degrees centigrade for the rest of the week with showers predicted today, tomorrow and at the end of the week with hazy sunshine forecast for Wednesday. However, with a bit of luck Calasparra’s unique weather system will come to the rescue and the heavy showers predicted for the weekend will pass us by.
We hope you enjoy these photo albums, contributed by Andrew and Hannah, of the first Easter parades with this article.
