HEALTH DEPT ADVISES EXTREME CAUTION IN HIGH TEMPERATURES

The Department of Health is asking residents to practice extreme caution as the  temperatures in the region are expected to rise to over 40C over the next few days.
The Department advises against direct exposure to sun during the hottest hours and has issued a reminder to pay attention to vulnerable people such as pregnant women, children under four years, over 65’s and those who are infirm as their condition may worsen with heat and dehydration.
AEMET issued a Yellow weather warning yesterday, Thursday, advising that temperatures will rise from Monday.
With these persistent high temperatures it is important to drink plenty of water, avoid exposure to the sun during the hottest period of the day (in Calasparra generally between 3pm and 7pm),  use clothing that allows your body to breathe, eat fresh fruit and vegetables and avoid caffiene, alcohol and anything containing high quantities of sugar.
The Department also warns against heat exposure when working outside, practising sport or leisure acitivities. These activitites shoud be restricted to the cooler parts of the day.
