Anyone buying an electric car or van can benefit from a subsidy of up to 6,000 euros, depending on the model, under a scheme which the Ministry of Industry has extended until November 30, 2012.
The Ministry has announced the extension of the scheme due to the poor uptake, probably due to the financial crisis, and underlines that a electric saloon car can cost as little as 30,000 euros and can travel up to 200 kilometres before requiring recharging.
Under the Horizontal Property Law recharging points can be installed in any private communal garages and if an individual installs this facility they are able to connect it to the domestic electricity meter.
There is also a public recharging facility in Murcia in the Avenida Alfonso X.
The subsidies do not apply to electric bicycles or lorries.
