The Government has introduced a package of measures designed to reduce prices in the supermarket and maintains tax relief on electricity and gas.
There is also an emergency 200 euros cheque for families with low incomes ie. less than 27,000 euros a year.
However, the universal 20 cents discount on petrol stops on December 31 and only applies to professional drivers, transport etc.(see below).
IVA (VAT) will be reduced from four to nought percent on basic foods and from 10 to five percent on pasta and olive oil until June 30.
The current reduction of taxes on electricity and gas will be extended for six months.
The two percent limit on rent increases on renewal of contracts will be extended and repossessions will be suspended for vulnerable families.
It will be illegal to cut off electricity supplies until December 31 2023 and the special “bono” for vulnerable families will be extended.
The 15 percent increase on the Ingreso Mínimo Vital and non-contributory pensions will be extended,
Three million families with incomes below 27,000 annuallly will qualify for a 200 euro cheque to offset rises in food prices.
There will be direct funds available to farmers to offset rises in the price of fertilizers.
The 20 cents discount on petrol will be maintained for haulage and transport, farmers, fishermen and shipping companies.
Direct help with urban public transport costs of 30 percent and 50% for inter urban and local.
