The stall, “El Ecológico” in Calasparra market, outside the gates of the Cine Rosales will open at 10am with vegetables freshly picked from the garden on the morning of the market.
Last week by 10am there was already a queue of local shoppers keen to buy the freshest vegetables on the market from the only ecological produce stall in Calasparra.
This week the stall offers fresh spinach, Swiss chard, cucumbers, courgettes, turnips, radishes and lettuces plus fresh herbs such as parsley, basil, mint and bay leaves.
The stall is able to offer the vegetables at very reasonable prices, very little more than the rest of the market stalls, because there are no extra costs such as intermediaries: the produce comes direct from the garden of this small ecological project.
Last week Calasparra Television interviewed Salvador who runs the stall and who explained the benefits of producing vegetable without any chemicals or artificial products. He explained that the taste of mass produced vegetables “does not compare” to the taste of freshly picked ecological vegetables which are “a blast from the past.”
The project, in Villa Vieja, Calasparra, has an ecological certificate from the Department of Agriculture in Murcia and is the subject of regular inspections and controls.
