FLIGHTS TO LONDON FROM SAN JAVIER CUT

As San Javier faces certain closure as the new airport at Corvera opens next summer activity at the airport continues to fall
During the first eight months of this year passenger numbers fell by some 7.3% compared to the same period in 2010. At 905,480 this figure is a far cry from the airport´s heyday in 2007 when two million passengers used the installations.
Now the companies at the airport are planning further cuts to services with 35% less operations in October and 62% less in November than during the same period last year.
During November on the 9, 14, 16, 21, 23 and 28, there will be just one flight to Gatwick (London). On the five days 2, 11, 24, 25 y 30 there will be two flights daily and on the three days 5, 12 y 19, there will be a total of eight flights.
Unions at the airport have called a general meeting for the staff at the airport tomorrow at 9.30am to consider the proposed closure of the installations to the public and the transfer of staff to the new airport.
