FATHERS DAY IS A NATIONAL HOLIDAY IN SPAIN

It’s Father’s Day in Spain on Saturday March 19 and, as the nation celebrates the birthday of Joseph, the father of Jesus, it is a national holiday.
According to some sources Father’s Day dates back to 1909 when Sonora Dodd, in North America considered her father, a war veteran, widow and father of six children all of whom he educated himself, was an example to follow and wanted to honour him by celebrating a special day for fathers.
She proposed her father’s birthday, June 19, and in 1924 this date was declared Father’s Day. However, in 1966 Lyndon Johnson declared the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day in the United States and in Spain it has hanged to March 19.
