Residents with expired UK driving licences may not drive in Spain until they are able to exchange their UK licences for Spanish ones.
This is the latest information from the British Embassy: if your UK driving licence has expired you may not drive in Spain.
However, once the painfully long negotiations are over and the adminstrative matters have been settled, drivers with expired UK driving licences will be able to exchange them for Spanish ones.
If you do drive without a current licence you could face a heavy fine and a driving ban plus your inusrance will not be valid.
It remains unclear whether those who have started the process of exchanging their driving licence and who have been issued with a temporary driving licence are allowed to drive.
In February an agreement was reached to extend the validity of current UK driving licences in Spain until April 30.
We will endeavour to keep you informed.
