Jesus Navarro, the predecessor of Pepe Velez as Mayor of Calasparra, is in court today facing charges in connection with the adjudication of contracts for the construction of the new nursery and the contract awarded to the Union Temporal of Businesses.
Navarro faces three charges of prevarication, which could carry his exclusion from public office for 10 years.
The public prosecutor alleges that the tendering process for the contract to build the nursery did not involve any adminstrative file and the awarding of the contract was outside procedural norms.
The prosecutor has also asked for the investigation of an alleged offence of prevarication concerning the contract awarded to the Union Temporal de Empresas.
According to the prosecution the contract was awarded «in full knowledge of other better offers and in light of the fact that it was impossible for such a small business to fulfill the contract, as demonstrated by the continuous delays and the subsequent bankrupcy of said company».
The former municipal architect of Calasparra and the technical architect directors of the works also stand accused with Navarro as well as the technical architects directors and the adjudicators of the Nursery Project.
