Ecologists in Action have warned that the natural corridor of the protected otter is being put at risk by projects envisaged under the Tourist Promotion Plan for the Almadenes Canyon.
The environmental protection group, who held their regional assembly in Cieza at the weekend, claim that plans for this protected natural space “do not feature any regulation or management of the project” and threaten “one of the best ribbon forests along the banks of the river Segura endangering flora and fauna which already faces extinction.”
The group also claims the plans threaten the natural habitat of the otter colony, a protected species in Spain.
The National Government, the regional authority and Calasparra and Cieza Town Halls are responsible for the plan which is already underway.
