Two people were dragged out of a blaze in Calasparra by local police officers called to the scene by neighbours who heard the cries from a house next door which was on fire.
It was 1.30am this morning when the police received a call from neighbours reporting screams from a house next door and smoke billowing from the interior of the building. When the police arrived the house was already in flames and filled with smoke.
The officers broke down the garage door and crawled along the floor to try and avoid breathing in too much smoke until they found a person lying unconscious on the garage floor. They were able to drag the person outside and administer first aid.
At this point the officers decided to re-enter the building and look for more victims despite the intense blaze and poor visibility due to the intense smoke. When they reached the dining room they found another person lying on the floor unconscious who they were able to drag out of the building.
Minutes later the fire brigade arrived to fight the blazee and medical personel to attend to the victims.
The victims were transferrd to hospital and the two police offciers were treated for smoke inhalation.
