The admirable association, Dogs Rescue Calasparra, will hold a fund raising Coffee Morning on Tuesday February 17 at 11.30am in the Asador El Valle.
The cost is 3.50pp and there will be a raffle and bonus ball.
All donations of cakes, savouries and raffle prizes will be very welcome.
As Dogs Rescue is totally dependant on donations and volunteers to feed and care for all the dogs and puppies in their refuge, plus the seemingly endless number of abandoned animals, these fund raising events are a question of simple survival.
Despite legislation that protects dogs and makes it illegal to allow them to breed unless you are licensed to do so; makes chips obligatory; and prohibits leaving them alone for more than 24 hours, puppies are regularly abandoned with or with their mother; adult dogs are shut in country properties and left to their own devices for days or simply let out by their owners «to exercise themselves» without any kind of supervision or care (which is also illegal).
Dogs Rescue are a safety net for the cruelty and neglect of those who take no responsibility for their pets. The Association struggles to keep up with costs and each new rescue brings a new challenge.
If you are unable to go to the Coffee Morning there are various ways you can make a donation including giving a small amount monthly.
If you have spare time there is a refuge full of dogs that would love to go for a walk with you.
