There was an 8.2% increase in domestic violence in Spain in 2020 bringing the percentage per 1000 women (over 14 years old) to 1.4%.
Since DV statistics began in Spain, on January 1, 2003, 1,118 women have died at the hands of their abusive partners or former partners.
November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Domestic Violence. Calasparra Town Hall has organised events to mark the day including reading a manifesto, a Graffiti Workshop and Storytelling.
Domestic Violence is defined as: “Any act of domestic violence which results, or may result in, physical, sexual or psychological injury, including threats and the curtailing of the victims physical freedom. This applies to acts committed in private or in public”

The victim has the right to restitution, reparation of damage and indemnities.
She has a right to information about judicial proceedings.
She has the right to protection of her dignity and intimacy during any proceedings related to DV.
Victims in Spain have the right to be properly advised, provided with legal representation, receive psychological, material, medical and social services, access to emergency or temporary safe housing and comprehensive social service assistance.
