The Mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez, was able to present a cheque for 1000 euros to two local charities after a thousand Chinese lanterns filled the Calasparra sky with Christmas spirit and a sense of giving at the charity event on Christmas Eve to raise funds for the Red Cross and Caritas.
At exactly 6.30pm residents and many visitors paid a euro each to fill the sky with light in the true spirit of Christmas.
Father Christmas also visited the town and received the children of Calasparra in his grotto.
To complete the festivities on December 24, the most important night during this festive period in Spain, the Association Band of Music accompanied a host of stalls and activities including the tree of wishes and children´s workshops.
The Town Hall would like to thank the crowds who turned out to make Christmas Eve in Calasparra so special as well as the volunteers of the Civil Protection, Red Cross, Municipal Services and local police.
